The Museums unique collection was assembled by motoring enthusiast Mike Cavanagh who spent 20 years building up a collection of cars and memorabilia whilst living in South Africa. On his return to England he opened the Cotswold Motoring Museum in the beautiful setting of Bourton-on-the-Water in 1978. ![]() Mr. Cavanagh continued to expand his collection for another 20 years before retiring in 1999, when the Museum was acquired by the CSMA (Civil Service Motoring Association). This award winning Motor Museum caters for all ages and revives the memory of the golden age of motoring from bygone years with its many displays of historic and classic cars and memorabilia. ![]() In addition to the considerable collection of cars there are motor cycles, toys and pedal cars, motoring signs, caravans and even horse drawn vehicles. The most famous inhabitant of the Museum is Brum, the little yellow toy car from the BBC series, who is a real favourite with children who know everything about him. The museum is very deceptive in size and leads from the main showroom to many other galleries, all with enough variety to interest the whole family. With the added advantage of being situated in the most celebrated village of the Cotswolds, with its many other attractions, it is a day out not to be missed.
